On Saturday, the 27th of June, Audrey’s Dad and his fiance were married! We drove down to Des Moines to celebrate with the two of them. It was a beautiful day and they were so happy. Not to mention I had the best steak of my life. That Sunday Octopus put on a benefit show for a kids Lego League. It was the cutest show to ever happy at the Octopus. Peas and Carrot played, so my family got to enjoy their musical stylings, which was certainly a highlight of their trip.

Weekend Wrap-Up| November

What a normal weekend! Friday night I went to the grand opening of Ulta with my friend Dara. We didn’t buy the whole store, so I’m really proud of us. On my way home I grabbed a burrito from Pablo’s and spent the rest of the night relaxing on the couch. Audrey brought me home these Sippin’ Specs from the World’s Largest Truck Stop. Best thing to drink orange soda with.

Saturday I did a bunch of blog stuff, cleaned the house a bit, and then head up the Third Eye to check-out Jessica’s new tattoo. Later that night I went on a date with Audrey and Graham. We went to see Interstellar. The movie was a little mind boggling. It seemed very realistic, and we all walked away like “whoa.” Certainly an award winning movie. If you like sci-fi I would highly recommend it! But be prepared, it’s over 3 hours long.

After the movie we headed downtown for some drinks. I didn’t take many pictures, but Graham ran into a friend and their embrace was too cute. Another great night out on the town with my babes!

Sunday morning I worked on my October Favorites, if you haven’t read that post yet, check it out here! We went to breakfast (my lunch), at the Cedar Falls Family Resturant. It has such a small town vibe, and pretty tasty food. I had a delicious chocolate shake, and good ole bacon and eggs. Yes, those things are good together.

I did a little shopping for my tree with my Mom that afternoon. Audrey made us amazing ham sandwiches for dinner, and we watched a couple documentaries. Overall the weekend was very relaxing, which was great to have as we gear up for another busy week, and weekend.

Peas and Carrot will be playing Studio One on Iowa Public Radio on Tuesday. Be sure to tune in to 90.9 in you live in the Cedar Valley at 7:00 pm to hear their set! Or you can attend the live recording at UNI in Communcations Building! Make sure to arrive early!

Have a wonderful week,

Weekend Wrap-Up: Audrey's Birthday

The big birthday weekend finally arrived! Friday night I hung out at home eating pizza and watching a million YouTube videos. Saturday morning I interviewed my wondeful cousin, Jenna. She told me all about her job, and what it’s like working in marketing. I loved catching up with, and getting a first hand account of what I might be doing someday. I can’t wait to learn more from her!

I spent all afternoon Saturday making treats. If Peas and Carrot were sponsored by a beer, it would be Highlife. So I made Highlife cupcakes with maple bacon Highlife frosting. I also turned her favorite sandwich, the BLT, into a cake. I baked bread, and cooked 2 pounds of bacon. I topped the ‘cake’ with a garlic ailoi. While things were cooling I practiced a bit of my make-up for Halloween. I can’t wait to show you the whole thing next week!

Peas and Carrot released Big Girl Shoes. Click here to listen! The night was perfect! All of the bands were awesome, a bunch of friends were there, and so many people bought their new EP. I couldn’t be more proud!

Sunday I got in a bunch of snugglin’ with the birthday girl. We ate way too much food, spent time with family and friends, watched our current favorite show Ghost Adventures, and got a giant bag of candy! Audrey says she had a great birthday.

And look at that! ^^ My very fist press release!! This blog is kind of a like a scrapbook so I had to make sure I saved it someplace. This week should be pretty low key, mostly just homework, and getting ready for the party this weekend!

Have a wonderful week,

Sick Days

Not this past Friday, but the Friday before that, Jessica, Becca, and I went to Becca’s house to watch scary movies, carve pumpkins, and maybe practice our zombie makeup for the zombie walk. After we carved our pumpkins and watched Carrie, I was snuggling with that guinea pig, Chicken Nugget, when he took a giant wee all over my pants. I thought he was just happy to be snuggling, making his cute little guinea pig noises. Nope, he was warning me he couldn’t hold it any longer, and then there I was with pee covered pants. It was pretty funny. But that meant no zombie makeup practice.

After I got home and cleaned up, I decided to enjoy some hot chocolate, and wait for Audrey to finish her closing shift at the bar. After a couple of hours, I started to feel really warm, and weak. And that’s when it began.. I went right to bed, and woke up the next day not feeling much better. I have this problem, especially when I’m sick, where I just can’t stay home. I suck at it. So I risked the undead lives and went to the Octopus to see everyone all zombified. I was only out about half an hour, when I realized I really needed to be on the couch.

I went to the doctor on Monday and was prescribed a 5 day antibiotic. The last day of the antibiotic my ear was KILLIN’ ME! So, being the daughter of a teacher of the hearing impaired, I was back to the doctor Friday afternoon. Sure enough, ear infection. Now I’m on a 10 day antibiotic. Thankfully I felt a little better the very next day, so I was able to enjoy myself this past weekend.

Saturday morning Audrey and I had some tasty breakfast burritos from La Calle. I spent a good portion of the afternoon making myself look pretty. Audrey says I look like this all the time.. HA! Audrey, Walter, and Graham played some Peas and Carrot songs as California Medley (LOL) at their friend’s wedding. I got to be their plus one, and had a great time. After the reception Audrey and I went out on The Hill, just the two of us. I’m not actually sure we’ve ever really done that. We had so much fun spending some time alone together!

On Sunday our local Historical Society hosted their annual cemetery walk. Volunteers learn the history of local dead folks, and then you walk from grave to grave learning a bit about each featured person. It was very informative, although I wish it had been a little more thrilling. I guess there have not been many unsolved mystery victims, or convicted murders, buried at Fairview Cemetery. My Mom and I spent the rest of the afternoon shopping. It was a fairly relaxing Sunday, that ended with hollandaise sauce, because Audrey is amazing.

The last two weeks have been crazy. Yesterday was the official midterm, hooray! I’m fairly happy with how my classes are going. I’m an account coordinator on a pretty big group project in my PR class that I’m really excited about. On Saturday I am interviewing my awesome cousin, Jenna, for another big project in a different class. Other than Econ, this semester has been really good to me. I schedule for next semester in November, and I’m hoping for no 8:00 am classes.

This weekend is going to be a blast and half! Peas and Carrot releases their EP, Big Girl Shoes, on Saturday, and Audrey’s birthday is Sunday. If you are a local reader, I hope to see you at Octopus for the show!!

Have a happy weekend!

Being Busy Is Okay

flowers from audrey

I know I’ve mentioned this a couple times, but I’m the kind of person that needs a lot of reassurance, at least about somethings.. It’s okay to be busy! When it comes to priorities, my blog, while in the top 10, isn’t that important right now. So here’s a little update on what I’ve been doing. Things are really moving along in our house. We have a spare room on our main floor that is half my glamifying spot, and eventually the other half will be a sort of workout area. This weekend my sweet Dad helped me set up make-up station/Mirrorland. We hung my full length mirror, my beautiful circle mirror, a small magnifying mirror from Ikea, and a chandelier also from Ikea. Yeah, it’s amazing. I still want to change out a couple pieces of furniture, but I’m so happy with how it turned out. I’ve already been able to spend more time doing my hair and makeup, which is one of my favorite ways de-stress, and gives me more confidence throughout the day.

PnC audrey's boots

The weekend before last I went down to Iowa City with Peas and Carrot. It was the last PnC show for a while as they are starting to record their EP this week. Also in music news, one of my absolute favorite bands played at Octopus this weekend, Gloom Balloon. If you ever get a chance to see them, be ready to dance. Patrick and Chris make the coolest music, and are so much fun to watch. They dance through the crowd, climb all over each other, and have awesome visuals to go along with every song. It’s basically one big sing-a-long dance party. I can’t get enough of them!

Salad Chicken Salad Pablos 2

Audrey and I have been going strong with eating healthy! We are just finishing up week 2.. I think? I am so bad at keeping track of time (hence the blog). We did have some pizza this weekend, but I mean.. I have a slice of pizza tattooed on my body.. I have to eat pizza or I will die. We’ve been eating a lot of chicken salads. Now that I’m feeling more energized and actually enjoying healthier foods, I’m starting to add a little cheese and starch back into my diet. I bought a couple different kinds of Laughing Cow cheese, and reduced fat Wheat Thins. Those with a slice of tomato or peach on top is my new favorite snack.

I’ve also been doing yoga! My best friend Anna has been partaking in month long challenges on Instagram, and really inspired me to give it a go this month. If you want to see my progress check out other instagram, HannahsHealthEats. It is a bit odd to put pictures of yourself doing yoga on the internet, but it really holds you accountable. I’ve also received so much support from the other participants in the challenge, it’s a great feeling. Next weekend Anna is coming to town and we are going to go out into the world and take some better quality pictures of each other in the upcoming poses. There’s just not a lot you can do with your girlfriend’s laptop camera and the self timer in terms of quality.

School is still going well, at least I think it is. I’ve yet to actually have to turn anything in, or take any quizzes or tests. I guess other than my gut feeling that I’m doing it right, I don’t actually know, but hey, no tests, not complaining.

Now that I’m getting more into the swing of things, such as my new job on campus, and a homework schedule, I should be able to blog more. I know social media is not as important as some things, but I really love it! So keep checking back for updates!

1. A bouquet from Hillcrest Farms that Audrey gave me
2. Peas and Carrot at The Yatch Club in Iowa City
3, 4. A couple chicken salads
5. A burrito in a bowl from Pablo’s
6, 7. The last Scratch Cupcake I might ever eat (yeah, right). This one was the Bangerang, read all about it here!
