27 Before 28

Don’t rub your eyes, it will smudge your mascara.. you are seeing this correctly. You are reading a blog post from me, Hannah, the now 27-year-old. If somehow you’ve ended up here on this post and you’ve never been to this blog before, you should know, I am a terrible blogger. Like 6 months hiatus, terrible. I am also a person who loves lists and goal settings. For the last 3 or 4 years, I have made a list of goals to complete before my next birthday. My last post was also a list of goals. So, if you don’t like goals or lists, this would be a good time to exit.

Let’s start with the 26 goals before 27:

1. 30 Days Of Biking
Nope. After 2 years on the list, I’m ready to take this one off. It’s just not happening.

2. Get new glasses and wear them

3. Send 50 pieces of mail

4. Stop shoving stuff in closets
I mean, I still shove stuff in there, but it’s organized shoving, so that’s different.

5. Clean the bathroom and vacuum weekly
I certainly didn’t actually do this, but for my not birthday (she said it couldn’t be a birthday present), my Mom bought me a new vacuum, and I’m obsessed. Also, I’ve set aside one day a week to clean the bathroom.

6. Stop binge watching TV

7. Cook meals, eat the leftovers

8. Go on a film camera adventure

9. Take the train to San Diego
The train is expensive, so I drove. Had a great time with my beautiful host, Dara.

10. Drive up the 1 and camp Big Sur
I did take a ride up the 1, and it sparked a rather large fire in my heart which burning out of control. I have to get back and camp this summer.

11. Get on a surfboard (no need to put the pressure on actually learning to surf, just get on)

12. Take great care of the CR-V

13. Invest in some health related stuff: good shoes, Fitbit, gym membership, etc.
Got shoes, got a gym membership, canceled the gym membership, decided that a fit bit was unnecessary, saved money.

14. Budget, save money, don’t go hungry

15. Make a blog schedule, try and stick to it
Obviously, that never happened.

16. Find some friends in Los Angeles

17. Commit to weight training/find a great gym and an even better trainer
*insert excuses here*

18. Make 12 vlogs

19. Explore California – Joshua Tree/San Francisco/Running Springs/San Luis Obispo/Santa
Barbara
I didn’t see nearly as much of California as I had hoped, but I did visit Palm Springs with my Mom (seriously miss that lady). I have, however, seen a lot of Los Angeles, and discovered a new favorite place, Long Beach.

20. Go to a LA Kings game
I never made it to a Kings game, but I saw the Lakers and the Clippers play.

21. Film a makeup tutorial

22. Drink at least 120 oz of water a day
I’m completely obsessed with my Joseph Joseph Dot water bottle. It has significantly increased my water consumption. I’d highly recommend purchasing one if you are struggling with this.

23. Buy a new camera lens

24. Learn enough LA history that I can give a super cool LA tour

25. Take a trip with the California Family – Mexico? Los Osos?
After recapping all of these goals, my biggest takeaway is life gets busy, for everyone. This year has been filled with so many experiences, I can’t feel too bad about not accomplishing some things on this list.

26. Lose 20 pounds

That year is over is done, so let’s not look back for too long. However, I did have some pretty great successes and moments I’d like to mention: drove 1800 miles to Los Angeles by myself, survived 2 months in Los Angeles without a job or a home *thank god for my Aunt Mary and Uncle Jon*, got a job after 2 months in Los Angeles at a kickass advertising agency, got an apartment, paid my bills on time, found my soulmate, got a promotion to a position I love after just six months at previously mention advertising agency, haven’t been in a car accident, or been eaten by a shark. TOTAL SUCCESS. So here is what I’m planning to do with the next 12 months:

1. Move into my own apartment in Long Beach
2. Buy a new bed and mattress
3. Curate a cohesive interior design/style
4. Not go broke
5. Work hard. Work really really really hard, and then get a promotion
6. Accomplish all of my work goals
In February I took a promotion at work, from Receptionist to HR and Operations Assistant. I absolutely love my new position and have since decided to further pursue a career in Human Resource. When my review comes around in February I would hope I have proven myself worthy of a new title and another happy little raise.
7. Use my soon to come-in-the-mail, holographic-cover, sticker-filled 2018 ban.do planner every day
8. Unplug more
9. Read 10 books
10. Visit Seattle (hello brother and best friend!)
11. Visit Boston
12. Visit Mexico City and Tulum with Anna
13. Go on two weekend camping trips
14. Eat more brunch
15. Smile and say hi to strangers (people actually do this in Long Beach!)
16. Send 100 pieces of mail, send me your address at sweethannahpea@gmail.com

17. Steal more flowers for fresh arrangements
18. Eat more fish (more will be really easy because I eat approximately none right now. And I’m totally already killing this goal.. I’ve had fish the past two weekends. WHO AM I?! I need to write a food post.)
19. Go surfing
20. Find and photograph tidepools
21. Make a scrapbook of 2017
22. Play basketball
23. Put more recipes in my recipe book
24. Finish a coloring book
25. Go to a Dodgers game and a Kings game
26. Go to 12 concerts (we’ve already been to 1, and we have tickets for 7 – soon to be 8 – others)
27. Master fake eyelashes

Thanks for following along when I do post.. I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read what I’ve written, especially when it’s solely focused on me and my shit. I have a backlog of other stories to share.. Museum of Ice Cream, Palm Springs, and more! See you soon.

The Half-Way Mark | 26 Before 27

How am I already 26 and a half?! I swear my amazing triple threat birthday/graduation/going-away party was like.. last week. My two friends with the same exact first and middle name sitting at the bar drinking beer, my high school friends throwing darts, my best girls catching on life with babies and plans to go back to school full time, and a whole table full of women who have been some of my biggest cheer leaders the last few years. #crying #blessed

In this my 26th year I have done a lot, despite my pretty much constant down playing of my successes. I guess I am rather happy with the whole graduating college, moving to the second largest city in the US, finding a place to live, and getting a job.

Okay, enough gloating, let’s see where I’m at on the goals I set for myself this year. I’ll italicize the ones that I’ve been keeping up on, but are long term and thus can’t be considered a success until May.

1. 30 Days Of Biking
2. Get new glasses and wear them NAILED IT. I now have 6 pairs of glasses. $6 frames, $6.95 single vision lenses. I love Eye Buy Direct. Get your own here, or leave a comment with your email address and I’ll send you my referral link. I’ll do some kind of post on those at some point.
3. Send 50 pieces of mail .. I have to be at least half way on this one.
4. Stop shoving stuff in closets … FAIL. I still down on a dresser, so my plan to make my closet into a dream space has failed and thus it’s full of junk.
5. Clean the bathroom and vacuum weekly
6. Stop binge watching TV – Seriously, you watched 107 episodes of a horse show made for teens.. you can’t get that time back. Haha, funny.
7. Cook meals, eat the leftovers
8. Go on a film camera adventure
9. Take the train to San Diego
10. Drive up the 1 and camp Big Sur
11. Get on a surf board (no need to put the pressure on actually learning to surf, just get on)
12. Take great care of the CR-V
13. Invest in some health related stuff: good shoes, fitbit, gym membership, etc.
14. Budget, save money, don’t go hungry
15. Make a blog schedule, try and stick to it .. I’m trying. Haven’t really made a schedule, but I’m here.
16. Find some friends in Los Angeles
17. Commit to weight training/find a great gym and an even better trainer
18. Make 12 vlogs
19. Explore California – Joshua Tree/San Francisco/Running Springs/San Luis Obispo/Santa Barbara .. This weekend I’ll be in San Diego, and Thanksgiving I’ll be in Los Osos!
20. Go to a LA Kings game
21. Film a makeup tutorial
22. Drink at least 120 oz of water a day .. OMG THIS IS SO MUCH WATER, WHAT WAS I THINKING?!
23. Buy a new camera lens
24. Learn enough LA history that I can give a super cool LA tour .. Visit me, let me take you to Venice, promise it will be great.
25. Take a trip with the California Family – Mexico? Los Osos?
26. Lose 20 pounds – I’m not super strict on this number.. I just want to lose fat and gain muscle. Lean mean lady machine.

That’s a little reality check. I’ve only crossed off two things.. Looks like I need to step up my game. The next six month better be action packed.. also I now realize some of these goals are contradictory.. like “save money, and also buy a new camera lens, and new shoes, and travel a bunch”.. I guess I wasn’t anticipating my salary. In the words of Tim Gunn.. “MAKE IT WORK!”

26 Before 27

I’m going to attempt to do this round of goals a little different than my previous goals. I want to mostly stick to goals I can document and write posts about. I also want to only tag the posts that specifically relate to this post under the tab. So when I get new glasses, I will write a post about them, but I won’t tag every post in which I’m wearing glasses. I’m just telling you this so I have to hold myself accountable for this as I’m writing the goals out.

Not entire sure how documentable those all are.. but.. Let’s do this!

Saying Goodbye to 25

It has been a little over a month since I celebrated the end of my 25th year of life. Totally had to ask my Mom what we actually did on my birthday.. this is why I blog, or why I need to blog more often. The weekend of my birthday was a whirlwind. The end of college and work, graduation, Mother’s Day, and then my birthday. On top of all that I was packing and running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to figure out my plan to get California.

Whatever I did on my birthday, it was great, I’m sure of it.

So if you’re new here, or you just don’t pay a lot of attention to detail, for the last two years I’ve created a list of goals equal to the years old I am, and set a completion date of the next birthday. Thus, I made a goal of 25 things to do before I turned 26. Here’s the list with some additional comments regarding completion or otherwise…

1. Create blog content that I am proud of, and feel less guilty about how often I post. Half completed, still not super proud of the content I created this past year.. but I have no guilt about it.
2. Maintain my current GPA. Last semester was hard, but I made tons of cool friends, so.. Whatever.

13118902_10205606073529185_7582020736542824368_n

3. Appreciate Iowa through travel.
4. Go on a mother/daughter adventure
5. Build a professional portfolio.
6. Propagate an excessive amount of succulents and give them away to friends!
7. Grow an herb garden from seedlings.
8. Finish the beauty room: hang pictures, cover pillows, etc. Going to miss this perfect room, but all it’s contents will be making their way to my new home.

Beauty Room

9. 30 days of biking It rains a lot in April, and I am not about pouring rain bike life. Should have done it in the fall, totally missed my opportunity.
10. Put a bird feeder in the yard.
11. Paint the front door red.
12. Complete a month of yoga challenge.
13. Get in the habit of meal planning, and grocery shopping once weekly.
14. Be more patient. I think I need to accept I’m never going to be very patient. Again, Whatever.
15. Finish at least one internship.
16. Update and re-design my resume.  Most beautiful resume ever. Jussayin’.
17. Mail birthday cards often. This year. Promise.
18. Host a themed party each season. As much as I love my friends, they have no ability to show up on time, and they don’t really like games very much.. BLAMING THEM.
19. Wear my glasses (and maybe get new ones). NO BUT SERIOUSLY, DO THIS!
20. Clean out my closet, and stop hoarding clothes that I never wear.
21. Be kind, caring, and more available especially to those who need me. Can I really be the one to cross this off? I don’t know if I was, but I tried to be, so I feel good about it.
22. Have a girls night at least once a month (sorry Jess and Becca, I guess you have to do this too).
23. Look at events in life with a best-case instead of worst-case interpretation. Or just ask. I’m going to say I did pretty flippin’ good at this, and I think it made a huge difference, especially in terms of winter blues. I would highly recommend not being so hard on yourself, and if you have anxiety or you’re worried about how someone feels about you or why they treated you however or whatever.. either get over it, forget them, or just ask what the hell is up. Endlessly worry about stuff is a huge waste of time. You do you, girl.
24. Make at least 5 of these crafts Officially accepted I am not a crafter.
25. Lose 30 pounds! BOOM CROSS THAT SHIT OFF BITCHES! Whaaaaat. Yep. Nailed it. The picture below: 1. Last weekend in April 2015. I saw this picture and cried because obviously that’s how like every weight loss story begins. ‘WHO THE HELL IS THAT PERSON!?’ 2. Birthday weekend 2015, I felt pretty, but my vest was really tight on my arms. 3. February 2016, I had been working out with Dan for a month. I felt better than ever. 4. The last weekend of April 2016. Not a huge difference since February, but I was so stupid stressed and still felt good that night. That never would have happened in 2015, or really ever.

before and after

I’m stupid pleased with how 25 Before 26 went. I mean, if I’d accomplished nothing but worrying less, spreading more kindness and support, and losing 30 pounds, I’d be happy. But I did a bunch of other cool stuff, and it made for a really great year. If you want to see more of that cool stuff, check out the 25 Before 26 category. And that denim vest is a little big on me now.

25 and a Half

IMG_3382

I’m halfway to 26 today! I have been diligently working on my 25 before 26 goals. Okay, maybe not diligently, more like ‘through some sort of miracle’ a bunch of my goals have been checked off. Many of them are more long-term, mental goals, which can’t really be checked off until the big 2-6, but I feel pretty good about where I am at with all of those.

1. Create blog content that I am proud of, and feel less guilty about how often I post. Feeling much less guilty now that I am writing for Odyssey. I still really want to focus on this little gem of a blog come spring because I know it could be a vital resource when I apply for jobs. Oh god.. jobs.
2. Maintain my current GPA. 5 weeks left in the semester, really not sure where I am at on this one.
3. Appreciate Iowa through travel. Doin’ it. Lovin’ it.
4. Go on a mother/daughter adventure – Chicago: Holocaust Museum and IKEA
5. Build a professional portfolio. After this semester my portfolio should be lookin’ pretty darn beautiful.
6. Propagate an excessive amount of succulents and give them away to friends! Crossing this out despite not giving anyone a succulent. I propagated, they grew into tiny succulents of adorableness, and then they died because my human life was happening and there wasn’t a lot of room for plant life. Oops.
7. Grow an herb garden from seedlings.
8. Finish the beauty room: hang pictures, cover pillows, etc. Just one more pillow to cover, and one more picture to hang, then I’m calling it good.
9. 30 days of biking COMING SPRING 2016
10. Put a bird feeder in the yard.
11. Paint the front door red.
12. Complete a month of yoga challenge.
13. Get in the habit of meal planning, and grocery shopping once weekly. Ehhhhhhh… see item 25.
14. Be more patient.
15. Finish at least one internship. 5 weeks left.
16. Update and re-design my resume.
17. Mail birthday cards often. I’ve mailed 3, so not doing super great but not failing.
18. Host a themed party each season. FAIL.
19. Wear my glasses (and maybe get new ones). FAIL.
20. Clean out my closet, and stop hoarding clothes that I never wear.
21. Be kind, caring, and more available especially to those who need me.
22. Have a girls night at least once a month (sorry Jess and Becca, I guess you have to do this too). Successful thus far!
23. Look at events in life with a best-case instead of worst-case interpretation. Or just ask. (goal inspired by this article)
24. Make at least 5 of these crafts. Christmas, a time for crafting.
25. Drum Roll Please….. Lose 30 pounds! The loftiest (but totally achievable) goal on the list! So probably the most exciting part about this, I’m over halfway there. Yep. Totally crushing it. Writing about this in a separate post, because turns out I have a lot to say about it. Shocking, I know.

IMG_3580

I am super duper happy with how 25 is coming along. 25 is like the chapter before what will probably be one of the best chapters in my book of life, and so I am trying to do everything I can to prepare for it. In the last 6 months I have made so many kind, passionate, and talented new friends, built stronger relationships with the people I love the most, and have felt so much happier and healthier in doing so. While I have pretty much no clue what 26 will hold, I love knowing that 25 has given me a plethora of new skills and experiences to be able to do almost anything I set my mind too.

Here’s to six more months of 25! Cheers!
