Lipstick is basically magic. It can transform an entire look in just a few seconds. From day to night, fun to professional, drab to fab, lipstick can do it all. With every season comes new makeup, but it also means taking a look at the makeup you already have and saying “well that’s clearly a summer color, so I should probably wear it before it goes back to being a clown color.” Clowns are the worst.
All good lipsticks require a juicy helping of lip balm first. You should always moisturize your lips before caking on the fish scales (do they still put fish scales in lipstick?). My bestie Anna brought me back this mint balm all the way from Tulum, Mexico. It minty and smooth, not to mention the jar is perfect. But since most of us won’t be going to Tulum to pick up our own anytime soon, I also included my second favorite, Mary Kay’s Satin Lips Lip Balm. Not only does this moisturize, it also adds a light shine, so it’s perfect to wear alone. MK says it lasts for 6 hours, and has vitamin A and E. While $10 might be a little pricey for lip balm, this stuff lasts forever. I mean, I’ve had this tube for like 2 years. I’m not even sure it even has a shelf life.. and if it does, my lips are still in tact, so whatever.
When it comes to lipsticks, I usually lean towards pinks and oranges in the summer. I have some pretty *HELLO LIPSTICK* colors, but those are more special occasion colors for me. These four are my go-tos for every day wear. The first being my all time favorite Kate Moss for Rimmel lipstick in shade #103, which is apparently no longer available.. HOW DARE YOU KATE MOSS?! But there are a bunch of shades in the collection that are very similar. She has an entire nude range now. How do I not have any of those yet?! Second in line is Katy Perry’s Katy Kat Matte for COVERGIRL in Kitty Purry. Obviously I bought this because of my love for Katy Perry and there’s literally cat ears on the packaging, but it turns out to be a great lipstick and color. Very smooth, but does require reapplication. Coming in around $8.00, the quality and packaging make it worth the cost.
Third in my summer lipstick lineup is Pacifica’s Power of Love lipstick in Nudie Red. This is more of a coral color that also transitions great into fall. The muted color allows you to wear a shade of orange without having to commit to a super standout color. I received this tube in an Ipsy bag, but they are available at Target for $10. Lastly, is an oldie but a goodie, which also apparently no longer available (I clearly need to clear out my makeup). COVERGIRL came out with their Whisper line a couple years. They are light coverage/shear lipsticks that give you just a whisper of color. This one is in #60, Petal Rebel.
So now that I’ve realized I need some new lipstick, what colors do you like to wear in the summer? Are you a little more adventurous than I am and just rock neon orange and fashion on the daily? Comment below!
